G D7 G
I never was so lonesome for my hometown
              D7 G
Seems I never was so far away
    C G
Now I can hear that freight train a blowing
A7 D7
I'll be gone before the break of day

So tonight I'm gonna start my journey back
C G E7
Sitting on the top an old box car
A7 D7 G
Sailing down that silvery stream of tracks

Now I'll never stray far from my hometown

Never leave again to roam
C G
I know I was born to wander
A7 D7
But I'm gonna stick around my home

G D7 G
Now I can see the smoke a rolling

Out of that old smoke stack
C G E7
I'm sittin’ on the top of an old box car
A7 D7 G
Sailing down that silvery stream of tracks
