It’s Raining Here This Morning

The Osborne Brothers

Written by Grandpa Jones

Key of F · Chords: I V

Verse 1

   F
Oh it’s raining, raining, raining here this morning
                                     C
As I sit in jail and hang my head in shame
     C F
With a smile I try to greet each early dawning
    F C
But they’ve given me a number for my name

Chorus

     F
Many a little raindrops are falling close to me
      F C
Makes the streams and rivers just as muddy as can be
     F
It’s raining, raining, raining here this morning
   F C
As the Mississippi flows on to the sea

Verse 2

    F
How I wish that I could see my little darling
    F C
And hold her in my arms just as before
  F
I used to tell her every day I loved her
    F C
But now she doesn’t love me anymore

Chorus

    F
She knew that I was guiltless of this one crime
    F C
And said that she’d be waiting there for me
    F
But she has found somewhere else to wander
      F C
Where the Mississippi flows on to the sea

Verse 3

    F
Its raining, raining, raining here this morning
    F C
And I am just as weary as can be
  F
I wish that I could follow all the raindrops
     F C F
Down the Mississippi toward the silver sea

Chorus

    F
But there’s no way to prove that I’m not guilty
   F C
So I will have to suffer all the shame
   C F
Go and tell her for me little raindrops
     F C F
That they’ve given me a number for my name
