Key of C · Chords: I IV V

Verse 1

C F
Oh dear I'm so tired and so lonesome
  G7 C
I wonder why mommy don't come
                             F
She told me to close my blue eyes
    G7 C
And before I woke up she'd be home

Verse 2

                              F
She said she was going to see grandma
    G7 C
Who lives by the river so wide
                               F
And I guess my mommy's fell in there
    G7 C
And perhaps she won't be home tonight

Verse 3

                                 F
So I guess I'll go down and meet daddy
G7 C
Perhaps he has stopped at the store
                               F
It's a great big store full of bottles
    G7 C
And I wish he wouldn't go there anymore

Verse 4

                             F
So out in the night with the baby
    G7 C
Her little heart beating with pride
                                    F
Till her tired feet entered the gin palace
     G7 C
With music all radiant with light

Verse 5

                                  F
Oh daddy she cried as she reached him
  G7 C
I think that the music's so sweet
                            F
But it's almost supper time daddy
       G7 C
Little blossom wants something to eat

Verse 6

                                F
A moment his blurred eyes gazed wildly
     G7 C
Down into her face sweet and fair
                           F
And as the demon possessed him
   G7 C
He grasped at the back of a chair

Verse 7

                      F
A moment a second was over
   G7 C
He lifted her fair golden head
                         F
A moment the baby's lips trembled
     G7 C
Then poor little blossom was dead
