Key of G · Chords: I IV V

Verse 1

G
The postman came and brought a letter
                C D7
It was from her boy that went away
             C G
She gave him up to join the colors
                    D7 G
Each time he writes I hear her pray

Verse 2

               C G
Dear God watch over my boy in service
                         D7
Help him win the victory there
              C G
And when this cruel old war is over
              D7 G
Send him home to mother's prayer

Verse 3

The day he left they walked together
            C D7
Down to the train that took him away
             C G
She knew her boy would be a hero
                 D7 G
Her smiling eyes just seemed to pray

Verse 2

               C G
Dear God watch over my boy in service
                         D7
Help him win the victory there
              C G
And when this cruel old war is over
              D7 G
Send him home to mother's prayer

Verse 4

Oh soldier boy don't ever forget her
             C D7
She prays to God for you each day
              C G
That harm may never overtake you
                     D7 G
When you're fighting far away

Verse 2

               C G
Dear God watch over my boy in service
                         D7
Help him win the victory there
              C G
And when this cruel old war is over
              D7 G
Send him home to mother's prayer
