Written by Carter Stanley and Ralph Stanley

Key of G · Chords: I IV

Verse 1

C G7
Sweetheart I recall the day I first met you
                             C
I wonder if you remember the same
                                      G7
We talked of the love we had for each other
                                              C
And longed for the day we'd change your sweet name

Verse 2

                                      G7
Oh I can still hear your voice in the evening
                                        C
I see your sweet face your blue eyes so bright
                                 G7
God took you away and left me so lonely
                                 C
The angels are singing in heaven tonight

Verse 3

                                           G7
As the years passed away we cherished each other
                                  C
No worries or cares to darken our day
                                      G7
From our little home up in the Clinch Mountains
                                        C
The Savior came down and called you one day

Verse 2

                                      G7
Oh I can still hear your voice in the evening
                                        C
I see your sweet face your blue eyes so bright
                                 G7
God took you away and left me so lonely
                                 C
The angels are singing in heaven tonight

Verse 4

                                    G7
I'll always be true and love you my darling
                                    C
I know you are happy and welcome up there
                                        G7
When God calls me home I'll meet you in heaven
                                            C
Please wait for me darling I'll meet you up there

Verse 2

                                      G7
Oh I can still hear your voice in the evening
                                        C
I see your sweet face your blue eyes so bright
                                 G7
God took you away and left me so lonely
                                 C
The angels are singing in heaven tonight
