The Bottle Let Me Down

Merle Haggard

Key of C · Chords: I V

Verse 1

C
Each night I leave the barroom when it's over
                                G7
Not feeling any pain at closing time

Verse 2

But tonight you memory found me much too sober
                                         C
Couldn't drink enough to keep you off my mind

Verse 3

Tonight the bottle let down
                        G7
And let you memory come around

Verse 4

The one true friend I thought I'd found
                       C
Tonight the bottle let down

Verse 5

I've always had a bottle I could turn to
                             G7
And lately I've been turning everyday

Verse 6

But the wind don't take effect the way it used to
                                   C
And I'm hurting in an old familiar way
