Written by Ralph Stanley and Carter Stanley

Key of C · Chords: I IV V

Verse 1

    C
Oft my thoughts drift back to childhood
       F C
To the times when I was free
     F C
As I played before the fireside
         G7 C
Round my darling mother’s knee

Chorus

There’s a blessed home up yonder
         F C
Where my loved ones wait for me
             F C
I saw mother in a vision
         G7 C
Kneeling there to pray for me

Verse 2

Then one day our mother left us
      F C
Daddy said she’d gone to rest
I remember how she loved me
       G7 C
As she clutched me to her breast

Verse 3

Some sweet day I’ll meet you mother
     F C
Your little boy is coming home
           F C
To see you as in days of childhood
            G7 C
The one you loved and left alone
